۞ Muster those who did evil, their wives, and that they were serving, 22 instead of God, and lead them all onto the way to the blazing fire, 23 “And stop them – they are to be questioned.” 24 What aileth you that ye succour not one another? 25 Nay, but this day they make full submission. 26 and advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 27 saying: 'You used to come to us from the right hand' 28 Others will respond, "It was you who did not want to have any faith. 29 "And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people (disobedient, polytheists, and disbelievers). 30 Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). 31 We seduced you astray; verily we were ourselves the seduced ones. 32 On that Day, they will all share the chastisement. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 For when it was said unto them, There is no Allah save Allah, they were scornful 35 And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?" 36 Nay, but he brought the Truth, and he confirmed those sent (before him). 37 “You surely have to taste the painful punishment.” 38 And be rewarded but only for what you had done, 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 For them awaits a known provision, 41 Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured 42 In gardens of pleasure 43 upon couches, set face to face, 44 With cups from a flowing stream being passed around, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 There shall be no trouble in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith. 47 And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, 48 As if they were eggs carefully protected. 49 Then they will advance unto each other, mutually questioning. 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: 52 When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we be recompensed?" 53 Then he will say, "Shall we look for him?" 54 He looked down and saw (his friend) in the midst of Hell. 55 He said, “By Allah, you had nearly ruined me!” 56 If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell]. 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 except for our first death, and are we not chastised? 59 Verily this! that is the supreme achievement. 60 For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 We have indeed made that a punishment for the unjust. 63 It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell; 64 its spathes are as the heads of Satans, 65 And verily they must eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 then surely they shall return to Hell. 68 Verily, they found their fathers on the wrong path; 69 and they are running in their footsteps. 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 And assuredly We sent among them warners. 72 So behold what wise hath been the end of those who were warned. 73 Save the bondmen of Allah sincere. 74
