Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Join My worshipers and 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
