The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 About which they differ? 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 save boiling water and pus 25 , A fitting reward. 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
