The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 By the Moon as she follows him; 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 And by the heaven and Him Who built it; 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 TO [THIS] TRUTH gave the lie, in their overweening arrogance, [the tribe of] Thamud, 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
