The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
When the sun Kuwwirat (wound round and lost its light and is overthrown). 1 when the stars shall scatter away, 2 And when the mountains are driven. 3 And when full-term she-camels are neglected 4 and when all beasts are gathered together, 5 And when the seas are set afire. 6 When the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like); 7 when the buried female infant is asked 8 for what crime she was slain, 9 when the scrolls are unrolled, 10 and when heaven is laid bare, 11 And when Hellfire is set ablaze 12 And when Paradise is brought near. 13 (Then) every soul will know what it hath made ready. 14 Oh, but I call to witness the planets, 15 Go straight, or hide; 16 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 17 And by the dawn when it breathes 18 That this is in truth the word of an honoured messenger, 19 Endued with Power, with rank before the Lord of the Throne, 20 there he is obeyed and held trustworthy. 21 And your companion is not gone mad. 22 He had surely seen Him on the clear horizon. 23 And this Prophet is not miserly upon the hidden. (Allah gave the knowledge of the hidden to the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.) 24 Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned. 25 Whither then will you go? 26 It is nothing but Good Counsel for everyone in the world, 27 for whosoever of you would go straight, 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
