The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 About the Great News 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
