He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
