Jonah (Younus)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A. L. R. These are the ayats of the Book of Wisdom. 1 It is a matter of wonderment to the mankind that we should reveal unto a man among them saying: warn thou the mankind, and bear those who have believed the glad tidings that theirs shall be a sure footing with their Lord! The infidels say: verily this is a sorcerer manifest. 2 Surely your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in six periods, and He is firm in power, regulating the affair, there is no intercessor except after His permission; this is Allah, your Lord, therefore serve Him; will you not then mind? 3 To Him all of you will return together. This is, in truth, the promise of Allah. He originates creation, then He revives it so that He may recompense those who believe and do righteous deeds. As for the unbelievers, theirs is a drink of boiling water and a painful punishment for their disbelief. 4 He it is Who appointed the sun a splendour and the moon a light, and measured for her stages, that ye might know the number of the years, and the reckoning. Allah created not (all) that save in truth. He detaileth the revelations for people who have knowledge. 5 Surely in the alternation of the night and the day and in all that Allah has created in the heavens and the earth there are signs for the people who seek to avoid (error of outlook and conduct). 6 Verily those who hope not for meeting with Us, and are well-pleased with the life of the world, and are satisfied therewith, and those who are neglectful of our signs: 7 Their abode is the Fire, because of the (evil) they earned. 8 But those who believe and act for a beneficial end will be guided by their Lord for their good faith. At their feet shall flow streams of running water in gardens of delight. 9 Their cry in it shall be: Glory to Thee, O Allah! and their greeting in it shall be: Peace; and the last of their cry shall be: Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. 10
