a large throng from the ancients, 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Do you yourselves create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme! 74
