The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
