AND CALL to mind, through this divine writ, Abraham. Behold, he was a man of truth, [already] a prophet 41 Remember, when he said to his father: "O my father, why do you worship that which can neither hear nor see nor even profit you the least? 42 Father, I have received the knowledge which has not been given to you. Follow me; I shall guide you to the right path. 43 Father, do not serve Satan, for Satan has indeed been a persistent rebel against the Most Compassionate Lord. 44 Father, I am afraid that the Beneficent God's torment will strike you and you will become a friend of satan." 45 (The father) replied: "Dost thou hate my gods, O Abraham? If thou forbear not, I will indeed stone thee: Now get away from me for a good long while!" 46 Abraham said: "Peace be on thee: I will pray to my Lord for thy forgiveness: for He is to me Most Gracious. 47 And I will leave you and those you invoke other than Allah and will invoke my Lord. I expect that I will not be in invocation to my Lord unhappy." 48 Thereupon Abraham dissociated himself from his people and the deities they worshipped instead of Allah, and We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob and made each of them a Prophet; 49 and We gave them of Our Mercy and We appointed to them a truthful, highly sincere tongue, 50
