And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn) 139 [Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship. 140 And then they cast lots, and he was the one who lost; 141 So the whale swallowed him, for he was blameworthy, 142 Had he not been one of those who acknowledge the glory of God, 143 He would certainly have tarried in its belly to the day when they are raised. 144 ۞ but We cast him upon the wilderness, and he was sick, 145 And We caused to grow over him a tree, a gourd. 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand or more people. 147 And they believed, whrefore We let them enjoy life for a season. 148 Now ask them whether your Lord has daughters, whereas they have sons. 149 Or created We the angels females while they were present? 150 Oh, verily, it is out of their own [inclination to] falsehood that some people assert, 151 'Allah has begotten' They are truly liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you judge? 154 Will ye not then reflect? 155 Or have you clear evidence? 156 Then bring your book, if you are truthful. 157 They have set up a kinship between Him and the jinn; and the jinn know that they shall be arraigned. 158 God is too glorious for what they ascribe to Him 159 except the servants of God, sincere and devoted. 160 Lo! verily, ye and that which ye worship, 161 can cause anyone to fall prey to your temptation 162 Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell! 163 Of us there is none but hath a station assigned. 164 We stand in ranks (for prayer) 165 we are they that give glory. 166 What, would they then say: 167 'If only we had had a Reminder from the ancients, 168 We would be single-minded slaves of Allah. 169 But (now that the Quran has come) they disbelieve therein (i.e. in the Quran and in Prophet Muhammad SAW, and all that which he brought, the Divine Revelation), so they will come to know! 170 Our word had already been given before to Our votaries, the apostles, -- 171 assuredly they shall be helped, 172 And verily Our host! they are to be overcome. 173 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 174 And see them thou; they themselves shall presently see. 175 Do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 Then when it descendeth unto them face to face, a hapless morn that shall be for those who were warned. 177 So turn thou from them for a while, 178 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 179 LIMITLESS in His glory is thy Sustainer, the Lord of almightiness, [exalted] above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 180 And peace be upon the Envoys; 181 And all praise unto Allah the Lord of the worlds. 182
