Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By the luminious Book. 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 And crops and noble sites 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
