Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 in a garden sublime, 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions ranged 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
