The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
