The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
