The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Mount 1 By a Decree inscribed 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 By the roof elevated. 5 and the sea swarming, 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. 12 on that Day they shall be ruthlessly thrust into the Fire of Hell. 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 Verily the God-fearing will be in Gardens and Delight. 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 God has been gracious to us and has saved us from the torment of Hell's intense heat -- 27 "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" 28
