Nay, and by the moon, 32 and the night when it retreats 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 As a warning to humanity - 36 to everyone of you, whether he chooses to come forward or to hang back! 37 Every soul will be a pledge for that which it hath earned, 38 Except the companions of the right, 39 In Gardens they will question 40 about the guilty ones: 41 “What drove you to Hell?” 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who entered into vain discourses. 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 till the Certain came to us.' -- 47 Then there will not profit them intercesion of the interceders. 48 So what is the matter with them that they turn away from the advice? 49 As though they were frightened asses 50 running away from a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 Let any who will, keep it in remembrance! 55 But none will remember, unless Allah wills, He is the Owner of fear, the Owner of forgiveness. 56
