He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 You pay full attention, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And he fears, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
