The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the heavens and al-tariq. 1 What could let you know what the nightly comer is! 2 It is the star shining brightly. 3 [for] no human being has ever been left unguarded. 4 Let the human reflect of what he is created. 5 He is created from a water gushing forth. 6 Proceeding from between the back-bone and the ribs, 7 He certainly has the power to bring him back to life. 8 upon the day when the secrets are tried, 9 Then will (man) have no power, nor any helper. 10 By the heaven with its recurring cycle of rain, 11 And by the earth which splitteth, 12 That this (Qur'an) is a decisive word 13 and it is certainly not a jest. 14 They are hatching up a plot, 15 and I am devising guile. 16 So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while. 17
True are the words of God the Almighty.
