1/4 Hizb 17
< random >
The chiefs of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer; 109 who wants to drive you out of your land! " [Said Pharaoh:] "What, then, do you advise?" 110 The others suggested holding Moses and his brother off and sending to all the cities 111 Who will bring you every learned magician." 112 And the enchanters came to Firon (and) said: We must surely have a reward if we are the prevailing ones. 113 He said: Yes, and you shall certainly be of those who are near (to me). 114 They said: 'Moses, will you throw first or shall we be the throwers' 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired Moses (saying): Throw thy staff! And lo! it swallowed up their lying show. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and put to shame, 119 And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 120 They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Said Pharaoh, 'You have believed in Him before I gave you leave. Surely this is a device you have devised in the city that you may expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 I shall cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides, and then crucify you all.' 124 They said: verily unto our Lord we are turning. 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
