The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 (Muhammad), leave them alone to eat and enjoy themselves and let their desires deceive them; they will soon know (the Truth). 3 And We have not destroyed a town but there was therefor a decree known. 4 No community precedeth the term thereof nor doth it fall behind. 5 They say: 'Thou, upon whom the Remembrance is sent down, thou art assuredly possessed! 6 Why do you not bring down the angels upon us, if you are truthful?" 7 We send not the angels down except with the truth (i.e. for torment, etc.), and in that case, they (the disbelievers) would have no respite! 8 Surely We have revealed the Reminder and We will most surely be its guardian. 9 (O Muhammad), certainly We did send Messengers before you among the nations which have gone by. 10 And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 they believe not in it, though the wont of the ancients is already gone. 13 And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it, 14 yet would they say, 'Our eyes have been dazzled; nay, we are a people bewitched!' 15
