Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 By the clear Book, 2 We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone." 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29
