He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 you ignore him. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
