Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 and couches raised high, 13 and prepared goblets, 14 well-placed cushions, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
