Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes and the angels row by row, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Enter among My servants 29 into My Paradise. 30
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
