The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And extended shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
