The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
