The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
