And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and will continue to cling to them." 71 He said, “Do they hear you when you call?” 72 Do they help or harm you?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 Ye and your forefathers! 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 "And it is He Who feeds me and gives me to drink. 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me, 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 "Forgive my father, for that he is among those astray; 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 They will say while they dispute therein, 96 “By oath of Allah, we were indeed in open error.” 97 when we deemed you [false deities] equal to the Sustainer of all the worlds 98 yet they who have seduced us [into believing in you] are the truly guilty ones! 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers... " 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
