A crowd of earlier generations 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers – 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
