The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the sun and his brightness, 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allah has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism or by following polytheism, etc. or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds). 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
