The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 when the most wretched of them uprose, 12 And the apostle of God had to tell them: "This is God's she-camel, let her drink." 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
