And the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink. 33 "If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, then verily! You indeed would be losers. 34 Doth he promise you that you, when ye are dead and have become dust and bones, will (again) be brought forth? 35 ۞ "Far, very far is that which ye are promised! 36 There is naught but our life in this world; we die and we live and we shall not be raised again. 37 “He is just a man who has fabricated a lie against Allah, and we are not going to believe him.” 38 He said: O my Lord! help me against their calling me a liar. 39 [Allah] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful." 40 And the Cry seized them in justice and We made them withered. So begone with the harmdoing nation. 41 Then after them, We created other generations. 42 No nation can outstrip its term, nor yet postpone it. 43 And We sent forth Our apostles, one after another: [and] every time their apostle came to a community, they gave him the lie: and so We caused them to follow one another [into the grave,] and let them become [mere] tales: and so - away with the folk who would not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and clear authority 45 to Pharaoh and his courtiers, but they behaved insolently, for they were an arrogant people. 46 And said: "Should we believe in two men like yourselves, whose people are our subjects?" 47 They called them liars and consequently were destroyed. 48 And We gave the Book to Moses so that they may be guided. 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother as a Sign: We gave them both shelter on high ground, affording rest and security and furnished with springs. 50
