Resurrection (Al-Qeyaamah)
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Shocker (Al-Qaare'ah) before The Backbiter (Al-Hummazah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by the day of resurrection. 1 And I swear by the self-reproaching person (a believer). 2 Does man think that We cannot [resurrect him and] bring his bones together again? 3 Yea, verily. We are Able to restore his very fingers! 4 But man desires to persist in his evil ways. 5 He questions: "When is the Day of Resurrection?" 6 but when the sight is dazed 7 and the moon is darkened, 8 And the sun and the moon shall be joined. 9 upon that day man shall say, 'Whither to flee?' 10 No! There is no refuge. 11 The only place of refuge will be with God. 12 On that Day will man be apprised of his deeds, both the earlier and the later. 13 But lo, man is well aware of himself, 14 even though he offers his excuses. 15 MOVE NOT thy tongue in haste, [repeating the words of the revelation:] 16 for, behold, it is for Us to gather it [in thy heart,] and to cause it to be read [as it ought to be read]. 17 When We recite it, follow its recitation (by Us). 18 Nay more, it is for Us to explain it (and make it clear): 19 Nay; the truth is that you love ardently (the good of this world) that can be obtained hastily, 20 And you have forsaken the Hereafter. 21 That day will faces be resplendent, 22 Looking toward their Lord; 23 And (other) faces on that day shall be gloomy, 24 thou mightest think the Calamity has been wreaked on them. 25 NAY, but when [the last breath] comes up to the throat [of a dying man,] 26 and people ask, "Is there any wizard [that could save him]?" 27 and he thinks that it is the parting 28 and is enwrapped in the pangs of death 29 Unto thy Lord that day will be the driving. 30
