The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
