The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
