The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
