The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 an orphaned relative 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
