He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you attend to him, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 most exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and purified. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
