Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Sad 1 A mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zakariya. 2 When he called out his Lord (Allah) a call in secret, 3 saying, 'O my Lord, behold the bones within me are feeble and my head is all aflame with hoariness. And in calling on Thee, my Lord, I have never been hitherto unprosperous. 4 Indeed, I fear my kinsmen who will succeed me, for my wife is barren. Grant me a kinsman 5 who will be my heir and the heir of the family of Jacob. Lord, make him a person who will please you". 6 (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: His name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before." 7 He said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son, when my wife is barren and I have grown quite decrepit from old age?" 8 [An angel] said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.' " 9 [Zachariah] prayed: "O my Sustainer! Appoint a sign for me!" Said [the angel]: "Thy sign shall be that for full three nights [and days] thou wilt not speak unto men". 10 Thereupon Zechariah came out from the sanctuary and directed his people by gestures to extol His glory by day and by night. 11 O Yahya! hold fast the book. And We vouchsafed unto him wisdom, while yet a child. 12 And compassion from Our presence, and purity; and he was devout, 13 And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. 14 Peace on him the day he was born, and the day he dieth and the day he shall be raised alive! 15
