The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 a host of the ancients 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 facing one another. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and flowing water 31 and abundant fruits, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
