He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olives, and palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
