Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And the ten nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 'O soul at peace, 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
