The chiefs of Firon's people said: most surely this is an enchanter possessed of knowledge: 109 and said, "He wants to expel you from your land." They asked (others), " what is your opinion in the matter? 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 Who will bring you every learned magician." 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 Pharaoh replied: 'Certainly, and you shall be among those who are near to me.' 114 So they said: "O Moses, you may cast your spell first, or we shall cast ours." 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ So the truth came to pass, and false was proved what they were doing. 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 And the sorcerers prostrated themselves 120 and said, "We believe in the Lord of the Universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron.' 122 But Pharaoh said: "You have come to accept belief in Him without my permission! This surely is a plot you have hatched to expel the people from the land. You will soon come to know. 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 They replied: 'We shall surely turn to our Lord. 125 Thou takest vengeance upon us only because we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour out upon us patience, and gather us unto Thee surrendering.' 126
