۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave? 52 They said: we found our fathers the worshippers thereof. 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They asked: "Hast thou come unto us [with this claim] in all earnest - or art thou one of those jesters?" 55 He said, 'Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who originated them, and I am one of those that bear witness thereunto. 56 “And, by oath of Allah, I shall seek to harm your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs.” 57 He broke them all into pieces, except for the biggest one of them, so that they might return to it [for enquiry]. 58 (When they saw the idols in this state) they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Surely he is one of the wrong-doers." 59 Some of them said, "We heard a youth called Abraham speaking against the idols". 60 They said, 'Bring him before the people's eyes; haply they shall bear witness.' 61 They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?" 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 And so they turned upon one another, saying, "Behold, it is you who are doing wrong." 64 Then they reversed themselves, [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak!" 65 He said: 'Would you then worship that, instead of Allah, which can neither help nor harm you? 66 Woe to you for what you worship instead of God. Have you no understanding?" 67 They said, "Burn him and support your gods - if you are to act." 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 And they desired a war on him, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 We took Abraham and Lot safely to the land in which We had sent blessings to the worlds. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac, and Jacob as an additional gift, and made them righteous. 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 And (remember) Lout (Lot), We gave him Hukman (right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) and (religious) knowledge, and We saved him from the town (folk) who practised Al-Khaba'ith (evil, wicked and filthy deeds, etc.). Verily, they were a people given to evil, and were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient, to Allah). 74 And We caused him to enter into Our mercy; verily he was of the righteous. 75
