The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
