Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 and the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
