And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 who makes me to die and then revives me, 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 and forgive my father, for he was among the astray. 86 And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected - 87 “The day when neither wealth will benefit nor will sons.” 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 Beside Allah? Can they succour you or succour themselves? 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 By Allah! we were certainly in manifest error, 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
