The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 then came down close 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
